Reflect. Respect. Celebrate. in the city at the 2026 Hancock Prospecting Australia Day. Join us from 3pm on Langley Park for an array of vibrant entertainment, with fun for all ages and adrenaline levels. An amazing 30-minute spectacle of drones and fireworks will light up Perth’s skyline and wow crowds at 8:30pm.

Road closures remain in effect until approximately 11:00pm, with the exception of Kings Park which will reopen at 9:30pm. Roads may be reopened earlier if it is safe to do so.

If you are hosting guests at your property, please ensure they arrive before the closures begin. Guests should avoid attempting to depart until roads have reopened.

Towing

Towing will be enforced for this event. Any vehicles that do not comply with the parking and access restrictions may be infringed and/or towed at the owner’s expense. No vehicle entry or exit will be permitted for properties or businesses within the road closure areas, and driveways may be blocked as part of the approved Hostile Vehicle Mitigation Strategy and Traffic Management Plans.

City of Perth Parking Information

  • Terrace Road Car Park
    Closed from Midnight Sunday, 25 January 2026 to 6:00am Tuesday 27 January 2026
    No permit parking permitted, vendors with permits will be required to utilise Plain Street and Council House car parks.
  • Plain Street Car Park
    Closed from Midnight Sunday, 25 January 2026 to 11:00pm Monday 26 January 2026.
  • Council House Car Park
    Closed from Midnight Sunday, 25 January 2026 to 6:00am Tuesday 27 January 2026
    Permit parking permitted.
  • Concert Hall Car Park
    Closed for renovations.
  • Convention Centre Car Park
    Car park to remain open; however, Freeway North and Riverside Drive entry/exits will be closed, along with southern pedestrian access points, from 7:00pm to 11:00pm on Monday 26 January 2026. Entry and exit via Mounts Bay Road.
  • Pier Street Car Park
    Car park to remain open. Entry and exit available via Pier Street onto Wellington Street.
  • Point Fraser Car Park
    Car park to remain open. Access to Point Fraser Car park to remain open, no overflow parking is available.

On-Street Parking Restrictions and Limited Parking Availability

Street parking within the road closure areas will be unavailable, with “No Stopping” hoods in place from 7:00am on Sunday 25 January 2026. Please refer to on-street signage for specific parking restrictions.

Terrace Road Residential Parking Permit Holders

Limited parking will be available for residential permit holders on Bennett Street, Hill Street and Plain Street (between Hay Street and Terrace Road) from 3:00pm to 7:00pm.

Emergency Access through Road Closures

In the event of a medical or other emergency, emergency vehicle access will be facilitated through the road closures. The City works closely with emergency services, including Western Australia Police Force, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, and St John Ambulance, to ensure timely access if required.

Public Transport

Due to large crowds and significant road closures, planned service disruptions will be in effect on the event day. Delays are anticipated during and after the event. Please plan your journey before you travel by using transperth.wa.gov.au/Journey-Planner.

River Closures

To ensure the safe operation of the Light Show, a section of the Swan River will be closed from 2:00pm – 12:00am on Monday 26 January for this event. A Temporary Notice to Mariners will be issued by the Department of Transport. If you plan to attend by boat, please visit transport.wa.gov.au for full details. Additional information will be updated closer to the event.

Noise Considerations

Minor noise may occur during bump-in activities, including marquee construction and speaker placement, between 7:00am and 5:00pm from Wednesday 21 to Sunday 25 January 2026, and from 7:00am to 3:00pm on Monday 26 January. These impacts are expected to be minimal, with little to no disruption anticipated.

Audio towers will be positioned throughout the Langley Park precinct. Amplified sound will occur intermittently from 10:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 January for sound checks, and continuously from 3:00pm to 9:30pm on Monday 26 January for the event. Fireworks as part of the light show are scheduled for approximately 8:45pm.

Minor noise and disruption may also occur during bump-out activities, including vehicle movements and marquee pack-down, from 9:30pm to 11:00pm on Monday 26 January and from 7:00am to 5:00pm on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 January.

All necessary safety measures will be in place to minimise impacts on surrounding businesses. Noise monitoring will be conducted during the event to ensure compliance with the Noise Management Plan.
