Hancock Agriculture - S. Kidman & CO
Australia (Hancock) and Australia-China (S Kidman)
$2 billion
Livestock, crops
It’s been a year of both buying and selling for the agricultural companies linked to Australia’s richest person, Gina Rinehart, whose net worth is estimated at $37.1 billion.
Her rural interests include Hancock Agriculture and the storied S Kidman & Co pastoral portfolio. Together, they span more than 3.5 million hectares and hold assets worth about $2 billion, placing Rinehart among Australia’s biggest farmland investors by both scale and value.
In the past 12 months, Hancock Agriculture bought the Jandowae Aggregation in Queensland from US-based Proterra Investment Partners as part of a broader $150 million sell-off, while S Kidman & Co sold the 22,667-hectare Rockybank Aggregation near Roma for more than $65 million.
It was a quieter year for acquisitions after the companies spent more than $150 million on properties in central and northern NSW and western Queensland over the previous 12 months.
Notable Holdings:
Durham Downs at Eromanga, Northern Territory (891,000 hectares), Helen Springs at Tennant Creek, Northern Territory (520,000 hectares), Fossil Downs at Fitzroy Crossing, Western Australia (394,028 hectares), Sundown Valley at Kingstown, NSW (17,785 hectares) and Calgan and Glencoe at Dubbo, NSW (16,601 hectares).
