Western Australia’s dairy industry has celebrated another successful year, with South West producer Cambray Cheese taking out the top prize at the 2026 Perth Royal Food Awards – Dairy.
The Cundinup-based cheesemaker claimed six Champion Trophies, including Champion Overall Dairy Product for its Washed Rind Brie, which impressed judges in the prestigious blind-tasting competition.
Cambray Cheese owner Tom Wilde joked that he had been considering dropping the cheese from the range just a day before judging because he was “so sick of washing it”. After its award-winning performance, he said the team may need to rethink that decision.
“We’re thrilled to win the major overall dairy award, particularly for one of our cow’s milk cheeses,” Mr Wilde said.
The awards, held on June 19, recognised excellence across Australia’s dairy sector, with 15 Champion Trophies awarded alongside Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
Another standout was Northcliffe’s Bannister Downs Dairy, which won Champion awards for its Non-Homogenised Milk, Choc Cherry Delite and Fresh Cream. Managing Director Suzanne Daubney said the recognition was a tribute to the dedication of the company’s team.
Royal Agricultural Society of WA CEO Robyn Sermon said the awards highlighted the quality and diversity of Australia’s dairy industry, from artisan cheesemakers to major dairy brands.
The Perth Royal Food Awards – Dairy form part of the wider Perth Royal Food Awards program, celebrating excellence across Australia’s food and beverage sector.
