Liebherr-Australia marked the end of its ‘Every Bucket Counts’ campaign by delivering a cheque for AU$50,000 to support breast cancer research at the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The campaign focused on one of Hancock Iron Ore’s R 9800 excavators. Prior to the delivery of the machine earlier this year, the Liebherr-Australia fabrication team painted both its counterweight and bucket bright pink.

The donation amount was based on the number of buckets of material moved throughout June by a Liebherr R 9800 excavator in Hancock Iron Ore’s fleet as part of the ‘Every Bucket Counts’ campaign

Support beyond mining equipment
The performance of the R 9800 played a key role in the success of this campaign. By surpassing its scheduled production targets for June, Liebherr-Australia was able to convert the results into the AU$50,000 amount donated in support of Australia’s National Breast Cancer Foundation and its ongoing world-class research towards their vision of ‘Zero Deaths from breast cancer’.

An evolving partnership
The pink R 9800 at the heart of the ‘Every Bucket Counts’ campaign was the second of three excavators Liebherr-Australia has delivered to Roy Hill mine in recent months. The first, an R 9400, was delivered in late 2024, which marked a new chapter in the relationship between Liebherr-Australia and Hancock Iron Ore. Liebherr-Australia handed over the third machine, a second R 9800, in May 2025.

Come along for the journey
Liebherr-Australia captured a video that showcases the teamwork and dedication that made this incredible donation possible, celebrating the company’s strong partnership with Hancock Iron Ore while supporting a cause close to so many hearts.

“Liebherr-Australia is proud to support Gina Rinehart’s initiative and Hancock Iron Ore’s continued efforts to support breast cancer research and improve patient care in Australia. Our ‘Every Bucket Counts’ campaign with Hancock Iron Ore reflects how we support our people and communities and demonstrates that Liebherr-Australia’s relationship with our customers goes beyond supplying mining equipment,” says Trent Wehr, managing director, Liebherr-Australia. “It also highlights the power of our excavators, with the R 9800 delivering fantastic performance for our customer throughout June.”

“The partnership between Liebherr-Australia and Hancock Iron Ore is defined not just by exceptional operational outcomes, but by a shared passion for making a meaningful difference in the lives of women and families affected by breast cancer. Hancock Iron Ore executive chairman, Dr Gina Rinehart AO, leads from the front in our commitment to breast cancer support, pioneering a host of world firsts, including the introduction of pink haul trucks and locomotives as bold symbols of the fight against this deadly disease. She also created the first ever breast cancer support charity in Australia back in the early 1990s. Our collaboration with Liebherr-Australia on the striking pink counterweight and bucket on the R 9800 is another global first,” says Dale Harris, chief operating officer, Hancock Iron Ore.
