Beef supply chains Mort&Co and Hancock Ag win national export awards
THE beef industry has cleaned up at the 60th annual Australian Export Awards, with Hancock Agriculture and Mort & Co winning separate sections. Hancock’s 2GR Wagyu brand took out the agribusiness, food and beverage category and Mort & Co won the regional exporter category. Consolidated Pastoral Co was a finalist in the agriculture category and Darwin-based live exporter Australian Cattle Enterprises emerging exporter finalist. Hancock Agriculture CEO Adam Giles said the company had grown exports in the UK, Europe and the west coast of the US, with further markets expected to develop with the organic growth in its herd and production capabilities. “The 2021–22 year was spectacular for 2GR,” Mr Giles said.
Gina Rinehart unveils details of buying spree for east coast pastoral and cropping land
Cashed-up Gina Rinehart has unveiled more of her future livestock plans with the sale of more large cattle stations in the north. Australia’s richest woman says the profits from the sale of her stations will be “redeployed” to buy “high quality east coast pastoral and cropping properties”.
Hancock warns of IR troubles
Gina Rinehart’s Hancock Prospecting says billions of dollars in future royalty and tax revenue for the WA economy would be in jeopardy if multi-employer bargaining codes are forced onto the mining sector. Hancock Prospecting chief executive Garry Korte said a six-week period of strike action at Port Hedland would cost $9 billion in lost iron ore export revenue and an estimated $551m in lost mining royalties to the WA Government. “If the Bill were to pass in its current form it would open the door to a confrontational industrial relations system that could cripple our industry and result in poorer wage outcomes for our workers,” he said.
